Earlier this week, UFC owner Dana White and longtime NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski dropped some bombshell news that he and quarterback Tom Brady nearly went to play for the Las Vegas Raiders, but former Raiders head coach Jon Gruden nixed the idea, presumably because he was loyal to quarterback Derek Carr.
The deal obviously never happened. Carr remained the team’s starting quarterback and Brady went to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers instead. but that didn’t stop the NFL world from discussing it all week to the point that Carr now believe’s he’s immune to any conversation about the topic.
“By now, I would hope so,” Carr said with a laugh, according to Pro Football Talk. “I mean, it is what it is.”
Carr has chosen a diplomatic approach to the situation. He realizes whatever he says will become a headline, so he’s instead choosing to talk about football.
“It really doesn’t matter,” Carr said regarding the Brady chatter. “At the end of the day, anything I say will just be blasted out there so I’m just going to completely remove myself and just keep trying to play football. It’s been nice just answering football questions. And hopefully, no more drama in the city. That’s what hope”
Carr will have plenty of football to talk about once the team begins its 2022-23 season against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 11.
