The Cleveland Browns hope their second season with Deshaun Watson at the helm of their offenses goes better than the first.
Watson served an 11-game suspension to begin last season after more than two dozen massage therapists accused him of gross sexual misconduct.
Though Watson showed flashes of his old self when he returned, he struggled for large swaths of play while returning from an almost two-year hiatus due to injury and suspension.
The Browns finished a disappointing 7-10, good enough for last place in the AFC North, as the traditionally tepid franchise missed the playoffs once again.
Watson has previously stated his play in practice already looks like a “night and day” difference. Though that remains to be seen on the field, Browns general manager Andrew Berry made clear this week that the franchise is expecting a lot of the quarterback it signed to the largest guaranteed contract in NFL history.
“We expect a lot out of Deshaun, having a full off-season under his belt, familiarity with his offensive teammates, familiarity with the playbook and offensive staff,” Berry said on a recent visit to the radio studio of ESPN Cleveland.
Browns fans will hope Watson recaptures his old form. The team will struggle to reach its goals if he doesn’t.
