The Cleveland Browns have major question marks surrounding the quarterback position. Last season’s opening week starter at the position, Deshaun Watson, had his status for the 2025 season thrown into doubt when he suffered a major setback in his recovery from the Achilles injury that ended his 2024 season early.
The Browns responded by adding four quarterbacks this offseason. Cleveland traded for Kenny Pickett, signed Joe Flacco in free agency, and drafted rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.
Many expected Watson’s time with the Browns to be all but finished, but news has emerged that is signaling that not only is he around the organization, but that he is even having a large impact on at least one of the Browns’ new arms.
“Deshaun Watson taking Shedeur Sanders ‘under his wing’ as mentor to Browns QBs,” reported the New York Post on Monday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“This will be the first part of my ‘How it started’ ‘How it’s going’ post. Shouldn’t need to wait too long for the second part,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire? Run Shedeur Run!” one fan added.
“The last person who should be taking anyone ‘under his wing,'” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see what sort of effect Watson’s mentorship has on Sanders’ career.
