Hurts held a press conference to discuss his new contract and when asked why he didn’t seek a fully-guaranteed contract, he said when it comes to the best teams in the NFL, “it takes a village.”
“Money is nice. Championships are better,” he said.
Across three seasons, Hurts tallied 7,906 yards and 44 touchdowns. He earned Pro Bowl honors in 2022.
There is a new-money average of $51 million per year at Hurts’ signing which makes him the highest-paid player in the league. Well, at least for now.
Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach mentioned he wants to restructure quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ contract after the monetary values of new deals surfaced. The 10-year extension that he signed in 2020 has an AAV of $45 million. Less than Hurts.
Veach said after the deals of Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert are done, he’ll be able to assess everything and go from there.
it appears Hurts set a standard.
