The Detroit Lions were hit with some very concerning news on Monday morning when newly-signed safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson went down with a non-contact knee injury during preseason camp. As a result, many Lions fans were holding their breath hoping for the best – and it seems like he’s going to be okay after all.

During a press conference on Monday, Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell gave a very positive update on the status of C.J. Gardner-Johnson, making it clear that despite the fears, the injury “doesn’t appear to be anything serious” and he will not be sidelined with a long-term injury.

“It appears to be that he’s going to be OK,” Campbell said, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “It doesn’t appear to be anything serious. So we’ll see. The images look pretty good. He may be out a day or two, but seems to be OK.”

It’s pretty major news, and the NFL world had plenty to say about it on social media as a result.

Gardner-Johnson was one of the top available safeties on the free agent market this offseason. It would have been a brutal blow to the Lions if he was unavailable this season.
