The Detroit Lions are having a surprising season. After a slow start to the 2022 season where they went just 1-6, the team has now won six of its last seven games and is a strong contender for a playoff spot. And the play from rookie pass rushers Aidan Hutchinson and James Houston is a big reason why.

As NFL insider Field Yates of ESPN points out, Aidan Hutchinson and James Houston are the two best pass rushers in the 2022 rookie draft class.

“Lions DE James Houston has become the 3rd rookie since sacks were created in 1982 to record a sack in each of his first four career games. The @Lions now have the top 2 sack leaders amongst rookies: Aidan Hutchinson (7.0) and Houston (5.0). Their 2022 draft class looks awesome,” Yates said on Twitter.

It’s an eye-popping stat for the Lions, and the NFL world had plenty to say about the sudden dominance of the team’s rookie pass rushers.

“Malcolm Rodriguez, who’s still a stud, might now be the fourth-most impressive pick of this draft class, which says a LOT,” Hamza Baccouche of SNation said on Twitter.

“Lions are coming on strong. This is not a team anyone wants to see in the playoffs,” Mike C said on Twitter.

“I was told this regime was clueless,” Ngandu Kasuku joked on Twitter.

It’s been a great season for the Detroit Lions, and these two rookies are a big reason why.
