Star quarterback Aaron Rodgers has not been shy about criticizing his young crop of receivers this preseason. And now it looks like Chicago Bears legend Dick Butkus is joining him in that criticism.

On Saturday, the legendary middle linebacker made quite the scathing assessment of the Bears receiving corps, suggesting that Rodgers should simply throw passes to himself this season.

“Boy, I hope Aaron Rodgers has figured out how to throw passes to himself because if not, Packers’ games are going to look a whole lot like playing fetch with my dog (miss you Lucy),” Butkus Tweeted on Saturday.

Butkus’ criticism comes after Rodgers made his own critical comments about the young and inexperienced receiving corps earlier this preseason.

“The young guys, especially young receivers, we’ve got to be way more consistent,” Rodgers said. “A lot of drops, a lot of bad route decisions, running the wrong route. We’ve got to get better in that area.”

Rodgers is entering the 2022 NFL season hoping that his current wide receivers can make up for the loss of former Packers star receiver Davante Adams’s production. But if Butkus’ and Rodgers’ observations are both true, it could be a long season for the Packers.
