Not even four full minutes into their first regular-season game as the Los Angeles Chargers, a referee referred to the team as the San Diego Chargers.

Philip Rivers and the Chargers were about to get a delay of game with 11:06 on the clock in the first quarter of their season-opener against the Denver Broncos. So, Rivers called a timeout at the last second, and referee Terry McAulay alerted the crowd in Denver about the decision.

“First charged timeout, San Diego.”

Hey, it’s an easy mistake, and McAulay likely won’t be the only referee to make it this year.
