Fox Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer had a very interesting report before the Thursday Night Football game between the Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins, and it involved what would’ve been a stunning blockbuster trade involving Miami.
Glazer reported that the Dolphins were willing to trade three first-round draft picks and two second-round picks to the Houston Texans for quarterback Deshaun Watson. Yes, a combined FIVE first and second-round picks.
However, Miami insisted that “there was requirement for [Watson] to settle with the 22 women in the (sexual assault) lawsuits,” which didn’t happen. Watson remained with Houston through the Nov. 2 trade deadline.

Now, the Dolphins’ interest in Watson has been well-documented, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter even reported on trade-deadline day that Miami owner Stephen Ross “had contingencies that needed to be met for any deal.”
Although the Dolphins did due diligence on Deshaun Watson and had conversations with Houston, Miami will not make a trade for the QB, per source. Dolphins’ owner Stephen Ross, who had contingencies that needed to be met for any deal, made the final decision to not move forward.

Surely those “contingencies” involved Watson settling, as Glazer reported.
But it’s still pretty incredible that Miami — who enters TNF with a 2-7 record — was willing to still give up five premium picks to acquire a guy that’s currently not even playing, because, you know- he’s been accused by 22 women of sexual assault and sexual harassment.
Then again, maybe we shouldn’t be surprised, because we know that NFL organizations are willing to be as sleazy as they’re allowed to be to upgrade roster talent- and especially when it comes to superstar quarterbacks. After all, it’s a QB league, and the Dolphins don’t appear to have a long-term answer there. This reported traded offer tells you all you need to know about how the Dolphins *really* view Tua Tagovailoa.
And, for Houston, this trade offer would suggest that some desperate organization — maybe Miami! — will likely be willing to give up plenty of draft capital in the offseason. But it’s hard to imagine anybody topping five combined first and second-round picks.
