The Pittsburgh Steelers are still trying to get a lot of things sorted out before the rapidly approaching regular season arrives. Pittsburgh is looking to ink star pass rusher and face of the franchise, T.J. Watt, to an extension, and also figure out whether their starting quarterback will be Mason Rudolph or Aaron Rodgers.
The Steelers have also been involved in trade talks with the Miami Dolphins concerning tight end Jonnu Smith, who had a breakout year in Miami last season. Now, some unfortunate news has struck the Steelers that may make a trade for Smith even more likely.
According to NBC’s Pro Football Talk, Steelers tight end Donald Parham Jr. suffered an Achilles rupture in OTAs, effectively ending his season, and leaving a hole at the position for Pittsburgh.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Why would Steelers need Jonnu Smith? Friermuth and also Washington, who I think was a 1st round pick. What a luxury having 1st round backup TE,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Steelers are a joke. Think we see Tomlin’s first losing season in 2025 regardless of who is under center,” someone else added.
“That’s a tough injury for anyone to come back from,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Steelers replace the production they were expecting to get from Smith.
