United States President Donald Trump has long been a serious NFL fan, which made it all the more shocking when he announced that he wouldn’t be attending the Super Bowl this year, one season after becoming the first sitting President to attend the event at Super Bowl LIX.

However, his absence at Super Bowl LX doesn’t mean he isn’t closely attuned to what’s going on in the league. Legendary head coach Bill Belichick has reportedly fallen short of the 40 necessary votes to qualify for the Hall of Fame on his first ballot, and Trump is demanding that the decision be overturned.

“It is the same mindset that gave pro football the new and unwatchable “Sissy” Kickoff Rule, that made it possible for Bill Belichick to not be elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Both are ridiculous and should be overturned!” the President wrote on social media.

It’s quite shocking to see Trump go to bat for Belichick, considering their past. Five years ago, Belichick respectfully declined the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Trump, and the President is known to hold a grudge.

It just goes to show how much he respects the work that the coach has put in over his career, which earned him eight Super Bowl rings, six of which he was a head coach for.

One way or another, it’s almost a given that Belichick will make the Hall of Fame next year in his second year on the ballot.
