Before Doug Marrone was the head coach of the Syracuse Orange, Buffalo Bills, and Jacksonville Jaguars, he was the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for the New Orleans Saints.
Now, it looks like he’s closed the loop. According to Jeff Duncan of The Times-Picayune, new Saints coach Dennis Allen is adding former Marrone and former Jets offensive coordinator John Morton to his offensive staff.
It’s unknown exactly what job Marrone will have but Ian Rapoport describes it as a “key role on their offensive staff.”
The #Saints are hiring an old friend, bringing back #Bama OL coach and former #Jaguars coach Doug Marrone for a key role on their offensive staff, source said.

Marrone spent last season as the offensive line coach with the Alabama Crimson Tide, the latest in a long line of former NFL and c college coach reclamation projects under Nick Saban.
Marrone took a year away from the NFL after being fired by the Jaguars following five seasons with the franchise. While Marrone did take the Jags to the AFC Championship in 2017, his three final years with the team were all losing records. Prior to that, he spent two seasons with the Bills, turning them into a winning team before leaving.
The Syracuse grad went 25-25 as the coach of his alma mater, taking over a program in disarray and leading them to two bowl victories in three years. While he referred to the Syracuse head coaching position as his “dream job,” he would leave after four years when the NFL came calling (another chance at living his “dreams.”)
Marrone has certainly garnered a certain reputation amongst NFL and college fans during his stints. Now that he’s back in the NFL, there are certainly a lot of reactions about the news on social media.

Doug Marrone is a great addition to the Saints staff. Well respected in coaching circles & is familiar with Dennis Allen & the Sean Payton offense, having served as the OC on the staff from 2006 to 2008.
It should be noted that Marrone is also a former Times-Picayune employee.😎

I think Doug Marrone's résumé is a lot better than people give him credit for. That being said, I want to see how the rest of the staff looks.
