The NFL draft is a little under two weeks away, and the Pittsburgh Steelers still don’t know who their starting quarterback is going to be for the 2025 season. Both of Pittsburgh’s starting quarterbacks signed with new teams this offseason.
Justin Fields is now a member of the New York Jets, and Russell Wilson is with the city’s other team, the New York Giants. While the Steelers can address the position in the draft, many have expected them to sign a veteran quarterback this offseason.
The leading candidate for the franchise has been four-time MVP winner and surefire first-ballot Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers; however, no deal has been finalized, and there is increasing buzz that Rodgers is seriously considering retirement.
Another veteran option for the Steelers was Drew Lock, but according to one prominent league insider, Lock has signed elsewhere.
“Sources: The #Seahawks are signing veteran QB Drew Lock, bringing him back to Seattle for a second stint. He will backup Sam Darnold,” reported FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz on Friday.
“I’m surprised he didn’t sign with the Steelers since Wilson just left,” one person wrote on Twitter.
Other fans reacted to Lock’s signing on social media as well.
“”If yall think this is a horrible pick up then yall dont pay attention at all. When geno went down lock didnt fold under pressure. When geno went down this year SAM FOLDED FIRST PLAY. Rather have lock at the qb2 spot,” one fan added.
“People thought he was a starter yet has signed to be the backup to Daniel Jones and Sam Darnold,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Steelers are able to land a veteran or are forced to draft a young arm.
