The 2023 NFL season is going to look, at times, like the 1983 NFL season. And fans couldn’t be more thrilled.

After the announcement that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would bring back their classic “creamsicle” uniforms in 2023, the Philadelphia Eagles have now announced that they will bring back their iconic Kelly green uniforms as well.

Eagles chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie announced Tuesday that the franchise will bring back the uniforms they wore until 1996 when he switched the team colors to the “midnight green” that they’ve used since. Specifically, the team will bring back the version of their uniform from between 1985 and 1995, when they wore a Kelly green jersey and gray pants.

Lurie also said that the Eagles will have a Kelly green alternate helmet for when they wear the alternate uniform. They will also have a black helmet to go with their black alternate jersey. NFL teams are allowed to have four sets of jerseys during a season and it appears the 2023 Eagles will feature midnight green, white, black, and Kelly green versions.

“We really wanted to go back to the classic Eagles jersey, but we wanted to do it the right way,” Lurie said. “It’s what our fans have wanted. It’s what we wanted. We wish we could deliver it right away, but it takes a two-year process. The 2023 season we’re going to have the classic Eagles green uniform and helmet.”

The reaction to the news was, obviously, very positive.

If you’re an Eagles fan, get ready to spend a lot of money on alternative jerseys in 2023.
