The Philadelphia Eagles are looking to repeat as Super Bowl champions after their Super Bowl LIX victory over the Kansas City Chiefs this past season. And one staple in their offense has sacrificed in order for the team to reclaim glory once again this coming season.
Since being drafted by the organization in 2018, Dallas Goedert has been one of the most important pieces of the Eagles’ offense. And last season, he was rewarded for all he has given to the organization with his Super Bowl ring.
This offseason, Goedert made a sacrifice financially in order for the Eagles to continue to maintain their excellence as a team, reworking his contract to a $10 million deal for the 2025 season when he was originally supposed to make an annual average of $14.25 million as a part of his four-year $57 million contract extension signed in 2021.
Recently, Goedert discussed his rationale in reworking his contract, detailing in a conversation with ESPN that he only has one thing on his mind in 2025, winning it all again.
“Yeah, so when I got drafted a year after they won the Super Bowl, I was able to experience the fun parts of a Super Bowl the year after winning the Super Bowl,” Goedert told ESPN. “After we won, and the opportunity to run it back again to see the banner drop, it would have felt like I was missing out on a lot not being there to see all that stuff. I got a lot of love for the city of Philadelphia, the ownership all the way to the cooks in the building. I got a great relationship with all of them. So, I figured for me it was best to work out a deal, so I could stay there and be with the people I find that are important and try to win another one.”
In the modern era of sports, it’s truly hard to find that kind of commitment to one specific organization. But maybe this kind of loyalty is what has made the Eagles such a great organization for so many years.
Clearly, Goedert is focused on the right things entering 2025. So, expect another great year for him as he approaches looming contract negotiations with the Eagles after the 2026 season.
