The Philadelphia Eagles selected linebacker Jihaad Campbell in the first round with the full expectation that Campbell would star for the defense and be a key piece of Philadelphia’s title defense following their dismantling of the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio previously provided August as a target for when Campbell would begin practicing as he works his way back from shoulder surgery. However, Campbell is not prioritizing returning to play as soon as possible, but rather making sure that he’s 100% back to his fully healthy self whenever he is ready to get back on the field, per Pro Football Talk.
“I wouldn’t necessarily say frustration,” Campbell said. “Every athlete can vouch for this, but we always feel like, ‘Dang I wanna get back out there.’ God has a story for everybody, especially for my journey.
“I got hurt. It’s just all about rehab and taking it one day at a time. Just trusting in God’s faith and God’s journey, so I can be the best version of myself.”
Fans reacted to Campbell’s words on social media.
“Translation: Not ready to practice until after the season starts,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“People who used this trite expression should be completely ignored and ostracized from polite society,” someone else said about Campbell wanting to be the “best version of (himself).”
It’ll be interesting to see when Campbell finally takes the field for Philadelphia.
