Eagles coach reacts to benching Jalen Hurts

The Philadelphia Eagles are the reigning Super Bowl champions, are in first place in the NFC East, but they still aren’t having the sort of season they wanted to. Anyone with eyes can see that this year’s Eagles team is a long way of from the team that won it all a season ago, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

Philadelphia’s overtime loss to the Los Angeles Chargers highlighted that, as well as any game before it, with reigning Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts throwing four interceptions in the contest, along with losing a fumble.

The always tough Philadelphia media even asked head coach Nick Sirianni about the possibility of benching hurts, a notion the head coach all but scoffed at in reaction.

“I think that’s ridiculous,” Sirianni said. “I know every time I go out on that field with Jalen Hurts as our quarterback, we have a chance to win the game.

“That’s something that’s been proven. We’ve won a lot of football games. This is the most ultimate team game. You win together as a team, you lose together as a team. It’s never just one thing.”

Fans reacted to Sirianni on social media.

“Waiting for media to ask Andy Reid if he’s gonna bench Patrick Mahomes… this just a Philly kind of question?” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Lame question, be better. Benching a QB with the resume of Jalen. Imagine the politics, the relationship changed, locker room, etc. You basically ending this era of Eagles football. Jalen needs to play better but you can’t do this if you not 1000% sure Tanner is a top level QB,” someone else added.

“And I know every 3rd and long they are going to go for a 5 yard pass play and be 3-5 yards short of the first down,” another fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see if Hurts can turn things around.
