The Atlanta Falcons have found themselves in a bit of a quarterback controversy. After signing veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins to a major contract despite him coming off an Achilles injury that ended his season in 2023, the Falcons drafted Michael Penix Jr. in the first round.
After up-and-down performances throughout the season from Cousins, the Falcons moved to Penix Jr. as the starter. Now, the team is stuck in a situation where it may be forced to pay its backup quarterback top dollar.
In light of this news, many expected the Falcons to try and trade Cousins, and the team has appeared to make its decision on the matter.
“Falcons GM Terry Fontenot indicated Kirk Cousins will remain with the team for the foreseeable future. So no quick resolution there,” reported NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo on Tuesday.

Fasnr reacted to the choice to keep Cousins on social media.
“I’m genuinely surprised Terry still has a job,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Kirko Chainz staying a Falcon on the bench?!? This whole thing is head scratching,” added someone else.
“I’m OK with this we saw how he played healthy and confident God forbid penix gets hurt and we have no back up,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see whether anything changes by the time training camp rolls around.
