Several months ago, Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes became the target of a burglary when intruders broke into his home while he was away playing in a football game. This incident contributed to the launch of an FBI investigation into a series of burglaries aimed at professional athletes.

Amid that investigation, Pattrick Mahomes has been issued a pretty clear warning against flaunting his wealth.

According to NBC News, the FBI has recently issued a warning to athletes regarding a string of burglaries believed to be orchestrated by South American organized crime rings specifically targeting high-profile players.

NBC reported that these criminal groups are known for their strategic approach, which includes conducting surveillance, assessing security systems, and singling out athletes perceived to own high-value items or large amounts of cash.

As a result, players – including Patrick Mahomes – have been urged to exercise caution by refraining from showcasing their wealth and valuable possessions on social media.

“The bureau recently issued the best-practices memo as part of a long-standing practice of communicating with private businesses about crime trends, a U.S. official briefed on the matter said,” NBC News reported.

“The memo, a ‘liaison information report,’ urges the leagues to advise athletes to limit imagery of valuables, such as cash, jewels, and electronics, on their public accounts, the official said.”

While the FBI’s advice is undoubtedly practical, it could present some challenges for Mahomes. Although neither Patrick nor his wife Brittany Mahomes regularly flaunts their wealth on social media, both are often seen wearing designer clothing, with Brittany owning several high-end handbags.

Additionally, Mahomes’ substantial salary and compensation details are public knowledge, meaning his financial status is easily accessible regardless of his social media activity.
