Typically when you see a story of an NFL player injuring a cop, it’s because they did something like resisting arrest.

Well on Tuesday in Miami, former Dolphins cornerback Dimitri Patterson injured two cops while resisting something similar but different. The 34-year-old hurt the cops as he was running away from family court.

According to the Miami Herald, shortly after a judge ordered that Patterson should be placed under custody, he started to run away. Patterson injured two cops in the process and now finds himself detained on possible charges of battery on a law enforcement officer.

It’s not clear why Patterson was in court to begin with, but it is clear why he’ll have to go back. A female officer reportedly hit her head and was taken to a nearby hospital and a male officer suffered a wrist injury.

Patterson signed with the Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent in 2005 and ultimately retired in 2014 after playing for six organizations.
