For the first time in his NFL career, Foster Moreau is a free agent. And as it turns out, his free agency happened at the right time. Because while taking a physical with another team, Moreau found out that he has cancer.

Moreau visited with the New Orleans Saints, his hometown team. On Wednesday, Moreau shared that in his physical, he learned that he has cancer, specifically Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

He took to Twitter to both announce his diagnosis and to share that he’s “stepping away from football.”

“Through somewhat of a miraculous process, this Free Agency period has been life changing for me. During a routine physical conducted by the Saint’s medical team down in New Orleans, I’ve come to learn that I have Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and will be stepping away from football at this time to fight a new opponent: Cancer. I’m grateful for the support and thankful for people who have stood firm with me. There hasn’t been a single step I’ve taken without hundreds of people lighting the path before me, and I will continue to seek their guidance,” Moreau tweeted.

Moreau finished with, “That being said, I’ll go kick this thing’s *** and get back to doing what I love! AMDG!”

The NFL community sent its best wishes to Moreau upon hearing the scary news.

Moreau was selected by the then-Oakland Raiders (now the Las Vegas Raiders) in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. With Darren Waller missing substantial time, Moreau had his best NFL season in 2022, catching 33 passes for 420 yards, both career highs.
