When it comes to breaking news about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaching staff, it appears that Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is in the know.
Smith shared on Twitter that former NFL quarterback Thad Lewis will be the new quarterbacks’ coach for the Bucs.
“My boy Thad Lewis got the Bucs QB coach job! Bro that’s crazy,” said Smith. “So happy for the progress of everyone in our camp.”

I was a freshman in HS starting QB on varsity and went to watch HML v Northwestern and Thad was QB at HML.

Lewis played quarterback for the Duke Blue Devils for four seasons and initially signed with the Rams when he wasn’t drafted in 2010. He bounced around the league for the next few seasons, playing in seven games between 2012 and 2013. He completed 60.8% of his passes for 1,296 yards and five touchdowns in those games.
In 2018, Lewis was hired by UCLA as an offensive analyst. Then in 2020, he was hired as an intern by Tampa Bay and worked his way up to offensive assistant. He was promoted to assistant wide receivers coach in 2021.
Smith’s breaking of Tampa Bay news is also notable because he’s been linked to the franchise as a potential free agent. Smith’s former QB coach in Seattle, Dave Canales, is now the offensive coordinator with the Bucs. Given his familiarity with the OC and the QB coach, it certainly sounds like Smith might want to entertain the possibility of leaving Seattle for TB.
