Heading into the 2023 NFL season, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is finally entering a season as the team’s bonafide starting quarterback. But it doesn’t sound like he’s letting that change his approach.

During a press conference this week, Geno Smith said that while there is a difference heading into the season as the team’s clear starting quarterback, he’s not going to change the way he leads the team.

“So I was leading these guys when I was the backup,” Smith said according to Pro Football Talk. “Leadership doesn’t have a title. You’re either a leader or you’re not. Leadership, to me, it’s something I’ve been about my whole life. I just continued to do the same things, I haven’t changed anything. I’m working the same way, got the same process, same lifting schedule, and I’m gonna lead these guys the same way. And obviously there is a difference. I’m not naive. Guys will look at it different. But I think if they see you being the same guy all the time, they respect it a lot more.”

Smith had the best season of his career last year, earning a spot in the Pro Bowl as a result. He will undoubtedly hope to expand upon that performance this coming season.
