The Pittsburgh Steelers traded away star wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys shortly after trading for former Seattle Seahawks star D.K. Metcalf. During his tenure with the Steelers, Pickens was always among the most talented players on the team.
Unfortunately, his on-field antics often led to costly penalties, and the Steelers decided to trade him away and recoup draft capital rather than entertain the idea of extending him.
Now, it appears as if the Steelers made the right decision, as Pickens’ character has been called into question yet again.
“Former #Steelers George Pickens bailed out a sold out youth camp and Pat Freiermuth stepped up for the kids,” reported NFL Rumors on Twitter on Wednesday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Disappointed to see George Pickens back out, but incredibly grateful for role models like Pat Freiermuth who show up and do the right thing. That’s leadership,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Steelers always have been great at finding really talented WRs outside of the 1st round. The downside is that several of them have had personality disorders,” another fan added.
“Dallas might have a problem. … well, another one to the pile,” someone else wrote.
It’ll be interesting to see if the Cowboys can manage Pickens as well as Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin did.
