The Green Bay Packers have finally dealt longtime franchise quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets.

Only time will tell how the trade works out for both teams.

Right now, however, the Packers are happy with their haul for Rodgers, though general manager Brian Gutekunst refused to get into why the franchise couldn’t convince Rodgers to go one more season with the team that drafted him.

“We’re not gonna get into those details,” Gutekunst said, according to NFL.com. “I understand the question. We tried to communicate on a number of levels. Once we couldn’t, we communicated with his agents quite a bit. I’m not gonna get into that. It’s not good for us, not good for them. And we’re just gonna kind of move forward. But I appreciate the question. But there was no lack of effort and communication on that part from us. I think this is a good day for the Packers, good day for the Jets.”

Rodgers indicated that the Packers hadn’t called him during negotiations with the Jets, giving a “convoluted” answer about FaceTime and cell reception at his house.

The Packers sent their 2023 first-round draft pick and 2023 fifth-round pick to New York in exchange for the Jets’ 2023 first-round pick, 2023 second-round pick, a 2023 sixth-round pick and a conditional 2024 pick in the package for Rodgers.
