The Indianapolis Colts will be leaning on Jonathan Taylor to anchor their running game this season. On Tuesday, they brought in some help for when he needs a break.
The NFL team signed veteran running back Phillip Lindsay to a one-year deal, his agent announced Tuesday.
Congrats to Phillip Lindsay ( @I_CU_boy ) agreeing to a one year deal with the @Colts

Lindsay is hoping to find some stability on the Colts roster this season. In 2021, he began the season with the Houston Texans, averaging just 2.6 yards per carry on 50 attempts. He was released in November and landed with the Miami Dolphins. He was able to improve to 3.1 yards per carry while there. He ended the season with 209 total yards on the ground and eight yards receiving.
Lindsey spent the three previous seasons with the Denver Broncos, who signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Colorado in 2018. He rushed for 1,037 yards and nine touchdowns in his first season and followed that up with 1,011 yards and seven touchdowns the next year. However, injuries limited him in 2020 and he finished with 502 yards and one touchdown before the Broncos opted not to re-sign him following the season.
Lindsay became the first undrafted offensive rookie to ever make the Pro Bowl with his 2018 performance. The Colts probably aren’t expecting that kind of production out of him now but they’d love to see him return to form as a quality second option behind Taylor.
