During his NFL career, Doug Baldwin was one of the NFL’s most thoughtful players as well as one least afraid to speak his mind. So it’s no surprise that he’d have something to say about Jack Del Rio’s recent comments.

The Washington Commanders’ defensive coordinator made headlines on Tuesday when he responded to a tweet about the upcoming January 6 committee public hearing by saying he’d love to hear “the whole story “ about “why the summer of riots, looting, burning and the destruction of personal property is never discussed,” referring to the overwhelmingly peaceful social justice protests from 2020 (which have, in fact, been much discussed).

He doubled down on those comments Wednesday, referring to the violent Capitol insurrection, which directly led to the death of seven people, as a “dustup.”

“Let’s get right down to it,” Del Rio said, via NBC4. “What did I ask? A simple question. Why are we not looking into those things, if we’re gonna talk about [January 6], why are we not looking into those things? Because it’s kind of hard for me to say, I can realistically look at it, I see the images on TV, people’s livelihoods are being destroyed. Businesses are being burned down. No problem. And then we have a dustup at the Capitol, nothing burned down. And we’re gonna make that a major deal.”

Del Rio’s comments certainly garnered a reaction from around the NFL world, and Baldwin chimed in as well.

“Jack Del Rio is an ignorant, ignorant man. And that is as loving and respectful as I can put it,” Baldwin tweeted.

The former Seahawks star is used to speaking his mind and getting harsh pushback over it, so we doubt he’s too worried about getting feedback on these comments either.
