Jacksonville Jaguars starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence is currently dealing with a bit of a knee injury that could potentially keep him sidelined this week against the New Orleans Saints. But even though he sounds optimistic that he’ll be able to play, it sounds like the Jaguars are making some contingency plans just in case.
According to a report from league insider Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Jacksonville Jaguars are signing veteran quarterback Nathan Rourke to their active roster to help bolster their depth at the quarterback position.
“Just mentioned on The Insiders on #NFLPlus: The #Jaguars are signing QB Nathan Rourke to the 53-man roster, per source. Some insurance with Trevor Lawrence dealing with a knee injury,” Rapoport said in a post on X, the social media website that was formerly known as Twitter.

Rourke is a veteran quarterback with a lot of experience, but he has not necessarily had that experience at the NFL level.
Following a strong career with the Ohio Bobcats, Rourke was drafted by the B.C. Lions of the CFL back in 2020, and he’s had a strong career playing in Canada as he was even named the CFL Most Outstanding Canadian following the 2022 CFL season.
