Jadeveon Clowney is the latest big addition for a Baltimore Ravens team that made a ton of splashes this offseason, which includes adding high-profile free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and inking star quarterback Lamar Jackson to a long-term contract. It was a bit curious that the former No. 1 overall pick was still on the free agent market with the NFL season just a few weeks away, but he’s certainly been a well-traveled veteran since departing from Houston Texans prior to the 2019 season.
And because of that, Clowney joined a rare company by signing with the Ravens, which was first reported by NFL insider Josina Anderson. Clowney’s deal with Baltimore is reportedly for one year and he can make a max of $6 million, which likely includes play-time incentives.

According to a post from NFL on CBS on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, Clowney is set to become the first No. 1 overall pick to play for five different teams (Texans, Seahawks, Titans, Browns and Ravens) since Jeff George. Of course, George was selected by the Indianapolis Colts with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1990 NFL Draft and went on to play for seven teams, including two stints with the Oakland Raiders.

Clowney was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Texans where he spent four seasons. Following his stint with the Texans, he spent one season with the Seattle Seahawks and one season with the Tennessee Titans before spending the past two years with the Cleveland Browns.
Clowney has had a strong NFL career, earning three Pro Bowl nominations in addition to a second-team All-Pro nod back in 2016. While he hasn’t necessarily lived up to the superstar billing he received coming out of the University of South Carolina, he’s certainly had a more successful career than George up until this point.
