The Jacksonville Jaguars grew in a massive way this past season, going from 3-14 in the 2021-22 season to a playoff team last year. This was in large part thanks to a huge jump forward from their offense. The organization made sure to keep a valuable piece to that offense with a huge move on Thursday.

Jaguars tight end Evan Engram had a breakout season last year, recording a career-high 766 receiving yards. They have made sure that he will stick around for a second year with the organization.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jaguars are expected to place the franchise tag on Engram for the upcoming 2023-24 season. If they do ultimately do so, he will receive $11.345 million next year.

A big point of emphasis for Jacksonville has been having as many productive pass catchers as possible around Trevor Lawrence. Bringing back Engram will certainly benefit him moving forward.

They may also be getting former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley next season. Jacksonville traded for Ridley after his year-long suspension for gambling, and he applied for reinstatement into the league earlier this month.

Given all of the uncertainty surrounding the rest of the AFC South at the moment, Jacksonville appears to be in a prime position to return to the postseason next year. Evan Engram should play a big role in helping that come to fruition.
