Monday was a big day for Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts; not only did he sign a new $255 million contract that made him the highest-paid quarterback in the league, but a new in-depth interview with Essence Magazine came out Monday too.

Hurts, who has managed to keep his private life private, opened up more in this new interview about his humble beginnings, love life, and where he stands today.

As many know, Jalen Hurts started his career at the University of Alabama, where he was the starting quarterback and won a national championship and an SEC title. The SEC named Hurts Freshman and Offensive Player of the Year before he transferred to Oklahoma.

Hurts became a star at Oklahoma, leading them to the Big 12 title and becoming a Heisman finalist, but through it all, he remained humbled and knew eventually, despite all his ups and downs, his time would come.

“For a very long time, I’ve been told what I’m not gonna do. Been told what I can’t do,” Hurts told Esquire. “But I never put a limit on myself.”

Some former Alabama players encouraged him to change positions. Hurts wouldn’t be denied.

“I don’t put a limit on myself. Nor should I.” In only his second year as the Eagles’ starter, he led them to the Super Bowl, which was not wrong for a kid who some didn’t think was quarterback material. And it has paid off.

Hurts credits much of his success to the women in his life- his female agent, his girlfriend, his mom, and his grandmother- for giving him spiritual guidance.

“I just think that’s the way it’s been ordained. I have the ultimate respect for anyone who goes out there and grinds for something. Puts the work in, and they go get it done. I don’t put a gender on those things.”

Limitations? They are not in Jalen Hurts’ vocabulary.
