Last week, Jalen Hurts signed a massive new deal with the Philadelphia Eagles that made him the highest-paid player in the history of the NFL. But some recent comments that he’s made about his recent contract seem to have drawn quite a few negative reactions from the NFL world.

On Monday morning, Jalen Hurts conducted a press conference with reporters where he discussed his new contract extension with the team. During the media availability, Hurts was asked about his decision not to seek a fully-guaranteed deal from the team. And during his answer, he implied that he was selflessly giving the team a discount with his new contract to allow them to sign more talent around him, according to James Palmer.

“#eagles QB Jalen Hurts was asked why he didn’t want a fully guaranteed contract. Hurts went on to say when you look at the best teams in the league ‘it takes a village.’ Hurts added that they have something special building in Philly.” Palmer said in a tweet on Monday.

Hurts then had a blunt message: “Money is nice. Championships are better.”

Obviously, these comments caused quite a stir in the NFL world with plenty of people pointing out that it’s insane for the highest-paid player in the history of the league to act like he was giving his team a discount. Not only that but whether or not the contract is fully guaranteed has no impact on the salary cap going forward.

Hurts was blasted for the quote.

Hurts didn’t get a fully guaranteed contract, but to insist he gave a hometown discount to help his team is laughable.
