Last week, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts made waves when he signed a new deal with the team that makes him the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL. But unlike Deshaun Watson’s contract with the Cleveland Browns, or the deal Lamar Jackson is reportedly seeking from the Baltimore Ravens, Hurts’ contract is not fully guaranteed. And he opened up about that fact this week.
During a press conference on Monday morning, Jalen Hurts was asked about his new contract, and he had some clear words about why he didn’t hold out for a fully guaranteed deal.
“#eagles QB Jalen Hurts was asked why he didn’t want a fully guaranteed contract. Hurts went on to say when you look at the best teams in the league ‘it takes a village.’ Hurts added that they have something special building in Philly,” NFL reporter James Palmer wrote in a tweet on Monday.

Hurts then followed that up with a quote that could serve as a clear message to Lamar Jackson, Watson, and any other quarterback holding out for a big deal: “Money is nice. Championships are better.”
We’ll have to see how these contract decisions work out for the teams and players throughout the remainder of their NFL careers.
