Last season veteran quarterback Jameis Winston spent time as the starter for the Cleveland Browns after Deshaun Watson went down with an Achilles injury in the middle of the year.
Winston showed flashes of brilliance but struggled with a high number of turnovers and was eventually benched for the younger Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Winston’s time with the Browns has come to an end and now he’s looking for his next suitor.
According to one prominent league insider, one destination is emerging as a potential landing spot for the veteran.
“Free-agent QB Jameis Winston is scheduled to visit the #Giants on Tuesday, per sources. While the New York braintrust waits for Aaron Rodgers’ decision, it‘s continuing to visit with alternatives: Joe Flacco, Russell Wilson and now Winston, the former No. 1 overall pick,” reported NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero on Monday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Winston took over for CLE & immediately their WRs had career days. Jeudy all of the sudden a WR1, Eli Moore made plays, Cedric Tillman went from draft “bust” to uber productive & Njoku from down year statistically to producing. He throws INTs. Maybe the Giants won’t win with him. But he’ll engage the WRs unlike any QB they’ve had in six years. I value that over anything available right now in free agency besides Rodgers,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“At this point this is who i want to be QB next year. I am here for the rollercoaster because at least ot makes them fun,” one fan added.
“This would be the most fun option. Although I don’t think watching Winston start for 17 games would actually be as fun as it seems from afar. He made $4M last year, so he’d be an economical bridge,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see where Winston ends up.
