Veteran quarterback and former number one overall pick in the NFL draft Jameis Winston spent last season with the Cleveland Browns. Winston started the season as the backup but was thrust into the starting role after Deshaun Watson’s season was ended by an Achilles injury.
Winston showed an ability to fill up the box score but also struggled mightily to protect the ball from turnovers. Winston became a free agent in the offseason, and now, he has found his landing spot, according to one prominent league insider.
“BREAKING: The #Giants and QB Jameis Winston are finalizing a 2-year, $8M deal, which could be up to $16M with incentives, multiple sources tell (NFL on FOX),” reported FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Malik Nabers is going to explode with Winston at QB. In 7 games where Winston started, Jerry Jeudy averaged 112 yards with 7 catches on 9.9 targets. In the 10 games without Winston, he averaged 44 yards with just 4 catches on 7.6 targets,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“I’m going to lose so much money on Jameis Winston pass attempts this season,” another fan added.
“Okay. I like it, basically play balls out make the money, if we can get Ward Winston will be the 2nd best option behind Rodgers to Bridge it,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Winston can do a better job of protecting the ball in New York than he managed in Cleveland.
