Earlier this week, four Detroit Lions players were given suspensions for violating the NFL’s gambling policy. And one of their teammates is not exactly pleased with the league’s decision.
Detroit Lions players Jameson Williams and Stanley Berryhill were each given six-game suspensions by the NFL while Quintez Cephus and C.J. Moore were suspended for at least a year. And teammate Jason Cabinda came to their defense on Twitter, suggesting that the league’s enforcement of these rules is inconsistent and hypocritical compared to how it enforces other rules.
“Don’t even have a huge issue with the rule it’s more about the repercussions that guys have gotten in the past for doing far worse being on the same scale as this… just doesn’t sit right,” Cabinda said in a tweet.

While Cabinda did not give specific examples of players doing “far worse” and receiving similar or lesser punishment by the league, he made his point quite clearly.
While the league did not provide many details on why the players were suspended, the NFL did explicitly say that Cephus and Moore bet on NFL games during the 2022 season, which is why they received a lengthier suspension. The league did not reveal why Berryhill and Williams were suspended, but it can be safely assumed from their punishments that they did not bet on NFL games.
