Jeff Saturday Indianapolis Colts interim head coach Jeff Saturday walks the sideline Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, during a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Earlier this season, the Indianapolis Colts named Jeff Saturday the team’s interim head coach in a quite surprising and very controversial decision that drew a ton of criticism from various different sources including some current NFL coaches. The criticism was proven correct as his brief stint as interim head coach was an absolute disaster, but it looks like the Colts still might hire him as the team’s full-time head coach.

According to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports, Colts owner Jim Irsay still wants to hire Jeff Saturday as the team’s full-time head coach, but that does not seem to be a popular choice among other people who work with Irsay.

“In Indy, I’m told Jim Irsay still has desires to hire Jeff Saturday, but some who work w/ the owner or have his ear, while feeling Saturday is a great person—are not in favor of him as a HC, per source. We’ll see if the #Colts make it through the list of expected 2nd interviews,” Anderson said in a tweet.

It’s a pretty shocking decision from Irsay, especially given how horribly the team performed under Saturday this season and how controversial his hiring was in the first place, and the NFL world had plenty to say about it on Twitter.

Saturday insisted that if he is hired as the team’s full-time head coach, he would make plenty of changes in the organization. But it’s safe to say the move will be heavily criticized if the team does hire him as the full-time head coach as it would be making a mockery of the Rooney Rule.
