The Cincinnati Bengals made the shocking decision not to have wide receiver Jermaine Burton travel with the team before their last game of the season, a must-win contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The only information provided on the decision not to have Burton travel with the team was that it was a coach’s decision.

On Wednesday, reports surfaced that may shed light on why the Bengals made their decision on Burton.

“The (Enquirer) has obtained records of a call from a 19-year old woman accusing (Bengals) WR Jermaine Burton of assault. She declined to press charges and none were filed,” reported the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Kelsey Conway on Twitter.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“The waters are muddied and the simple solution isn’t to just cut the kid. He needs help, from somewhere. The Cincinnati Bengals were willing to draft him, so this falls on them,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“I’m old enough to remember that the Enquirer obtained records relating to Joe Mixon…. Best to let the facts come out folks,” one fan said.

“If this is true he should never play in the NFL again,” one fan added.

“Absolutely disgusting. Hope something is done about this. We cannot let the sport be filled with these type of people,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see how the NFL handles this situation.
