The Dallas Cowboys have engaged in an extremely public and contentious contract dispute between star pass rusher Micah Parsons, who is looking for a contract extension that reflects the dominant career he’s had, and team owner and general manager Jerry Jones.
Parsons opened training camp as a full participant, but after trading jabs with Jones through the media, stopped participating to manage a “back injury” and has even requested a trade.
As poorly as things stand between the sides at the moment, it would appear that Jones is expecting his star player to honor his current contract, regardless of how he feels about it.
“I don’t know that necessarily talks will,” Jones said of negotiations with Parsons moving forward, via Jon Machota of The Athletic, “but we got a game coming and he’s under contract.”
Fans reacted to Jones’ statement on social media.
“I love Micah, but the owner isn’t wrong here. Micah’s under contract for $25 million this year and it’s not for him to stand around and not participate. Business is business,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Will be interesting to see if Hendrickson and Micah are willing to give up game day checks. Or if Micah’s back pain disappears,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens next in this saga. It appears as if things are rapidly approaching the point of no return between the sides.
