The Dallas Cowboys decided to withhold $500,000 from the contract of star cornerback Trevon Diggs on account of Diggs not rehabbing enough at team facilities as he works his way back from a torn ACL suffered last season.
It was a shocking move that many felt Jerry Jones, the franchise’s owner and general manager, did not need to make. Jones and his son Stephen gave their takes on the situation on Monday.
“A lot of choice words from #Cowboys brass about CB Trevon Diggs in today’s presser: Jerry Jones: ‘We expect a player paid like Trevon to be here all the time. We expect him to be leading. That’s not new…You’ve got to have some leadership about you.’ Stephen Jones: ‘When he decided to train in South Florida, he knew what the consequences would be.; Front office clearly wants more from their star corner,” reported Cowboys writer Nick Harris.
Fans reacted to the shots on social media.
“Good luck getting leadership outta him. Either you’re a leader or you’re not. He’s not. Hope they can move him for high value,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Training in south Florida is what players around the league have been doing for years. Diggs signed the contract so that’s his fault for losing money but to vilify him for training there is crazy. Ray Lewis and Ed reed use to do the same back in the day,” one fan added.
“Diggs is not the type to take that very well. He’s a proud man. We probably won’t see him until December,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see what Diggs has to say about the shots.
