The New York Jets are having a nightmare of a season. Entering Week Seven, the Jets are the league’s last winless team, and things have been trending in the wrong direction. Head coach Aaron Glenn decided to leave quarterback Justin Fields in the game, despite him looking overmatched throughout the contest.
It seemed as if Glenn didn’t trust Fields to perform, as evidenced by his decision to have Fields let time run out in the first half rather than try and push the ball downfield and try to score.
Now, Glenn is expressing remorse for his decision.
“I said guys, let’s just get out the half, right, because we’re getting the ball in the second half,” Glenn said, according to Pro Football Talk. “But yes, I would say, if I could take, man let’s run it down, let’s get ready to throw the Hail Mary. So, I’m with you on that. That’s a mistake that I made and I hold myself accountable for that.”
Fans reacted to Glenn on social media.
“Clock management haunts the Jets again. Fields had 32 yards in the first half, lowest of any NFL team this season. Glenn’s learning curve as HC showing. Major shift needed before Panthers come to town,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Glenn has been associated with football for 40+ years of his life, and realised the next day he should have attempted a Hail Mary before halftime of the game he was the Head Coach for?? Huh? Next!” another fan adde.d
“Big question for the Jets, if you draft a QB next year, do you want Glenn & his coaching staff developing him?” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see where the Jets’ season goes from here.
