The Jets have already decided on Zach Wilson and his future, but as the Aaron Rodgers situation continues to drag out, the team is reportedly doing its homework on some quarterback prospects for the upcoming NFL Draft. New York holds the 13th overall selection in April’s draft, though they could look beyond the first round for various quarterback options.
According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, the Jets are among several teams that have a private visit and workout set up with former Purdue Boilermakers QB Aidan O’Connell.
In addition to the Jets, O’Connell had a private workout on Tuesday with the Dallas Cowboys, with future private visits and workouts set up with the Raiders, Saints, Bengals, Colts and Bears, and according to Pelissero, has Zoomed with at least 10 other teams.
The 24-year-old O’Connell spent six years in West Lafayette, though he didn’t see action in his first two seasons at Purdue. He originally joined the Boilermakers as a walk-on but was placed on scholarship before the 2019 season. In 33 career games at Purdue, O’Connell led his team to a 17-11 record while completing 66.7% of his passes for 9,219 yards with 65 touchdowns and 30 interceptions. This past season, O’Connell completed 320-of-499 passes (64.1%) for 3,490 passing yards with 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
After standing out at the Shrine Bowl, O’Connell put himself squarely in the conversation of being one of the top quarterbacks drafted on Day 2. As both the Jets and Green Bay Packers dig their heels in on a potential Aaron Rodgers trade, O’Connell emerges as a possible option at the very least.
