It has been a difficult road in the NFL thus far for third-year receiver Denzel Mims, who was selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the New York Jets.

Injuries and inconsistent play have hampered Mims thus far in his young career, but he showed some real potential in the Jets’ final preseason game against the New York Giants.

Mims only recorded 133 receiving yards just a year ago in 11 games for the Jets. But he almost matched that in Sunday’s game, exploding for seven receptions for 102 yards. That included an impressive 29-yard touchdown catch on a pass from backup quarterback Chris Streveler.

After the touchdown catch, Mims (seen above making that catch) broke out the watch celebration, seemingly to signify that it’s his time to breakout in the NFL. More performances like this will go a long way in doing so.

This breakout performance comes just three days after Mims requested a trade from the Jets organization. He cited a lack of opportunity with the starters this offseason in a statement made by his agent on Thursday.

Teams will certainly take notice of this performance from Mims as they look to round out their roster with only two weeks until the first Sunday of the NFL regular season.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh spoke about Mims’ trade request on Saturday, saying that he “doesn’t believe” that Mims time with the Jets is over just yet.

Mims appears dead set on getting opportunities in the NFL, whether that be in New York or elsewhere. This impressive game could certainly help him in attaining that chance.
