Jamal Adams of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish during the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl against the LSU Tigers at LP Field on December 30, 2014 in Nashville, Tennessee.

NFL prospect Jamal Adams visited with the Jets recently, and Adams told Jenna Laine of ESPN that the franchise is not exactly hopeful they’ll have a chance to draft the former LSU safety.

Adams is basically a consensus top five pick for next week’s draft, and the Jets hold the No. 6 pick. So when he visited, the Jets asked him: “You’re wasting your time. Why are you here?”

Already, people on Twitter have misunderstood the quote to mean the Jets are assholes, having invited Adams to New York only to tell him he’s not worthy. The quote is ridiculous, but it’s actually a compliment as they essentially told him they see no way he falls out of the top five.

Although Adams is a great talent, Jets fans may actually be happy he is off the board by the time New York is on the clock because the team so desperately needs a quarterback for next season. There are no surefire franchise quarterbacks in this year’s draft, but there are a couple of solid options that should be available at No. 6 in North Carolina’s Mitch Trubisky and Clemson’s Deshaun Watson.

If the Jets don’t make some late moves at QB, they’ll be starting journeyman Josh McCown, who will turn 38 years old this summer.
