Former Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis unfortunately had his collegiate career cut short after suffering a fractured and dislocated ankle in 2023. And unfortunately, this same injury has put an end to his professional career before it ever got started.

Travis spent the entirety of the 2024 NFL season after being selected in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the New York Jets on the non-football injury list while he attempted to recover from his devastating 2023 injury.

It appears as if his recovery from his injury has not gone to plan. So much so that Travis informed the Jets organization that at just 24 years of age, he would be calling it quits on his football career.

“On November 18, 2023, my life took an unexpected turn,” said Travis in a statement on the Jets team website. “I gave everything I had to the rehab process but despite all my efforts, my leg never responded the way we hoped. After much prayer and consultation with the doctors, medical experts and my agent, I’ve been medically advised to retire from the game I love so deeply.”

Jets new GM Darren Mougey similarly issued a statement on the matter, calling it “unfortunate” that his body hasn’t allowed him to get back onto the field.

“Jordan has informed us of his intent to retire due to the injury he sustained while at Florida State,” Mougey said in a statement. “It is unfortunate that he was unable to get back on the field after working so hard. We support his decision and wish him only the best.”

It’s obviously unclear what Travis will choose to do next professionally now that his football career appears to be over. But at the very least, Florida State fans will always remember Travis for what he did at the program, breaking Chris Weinke’s school records with 99 total touchdowns and 10,665 yards of total offense over the course of his collegiate career.
