The New York Jets are looking to get their franchise turned around after the massive failure that was the Aaron Rodgers experiment. In his two seasons with the Jets, Rodgers was effectively only available for one season, and even in that season the Jets only won five games.

After bringing in new head coach Aaron Glenn from the Detroit Lions, the Jets let Rodgers know that they’d be moving in a new direction at quarterback. Now, according to one prominent league insider, Glenn and the franchise are done with one of Rodgers’ old running mates, who was traded for mid-season.

“Jets are releasing WR Davante Adams, per source,” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Tuesday.

Schefter then expanded on why the Jets are making the move.

“The Jets will save $29.9M in salary cap space by releasing Davante Adams. He had no guaranteed money remaining on his contract.”

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“The Jets are finally making a smart financial move instead of wasting money on declining assets,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Seattle should make a move at him, so should the Texans and the Cowboys… Seattle makes sense especially if the rumors are true that DK. metcalf could be traded,” added another fan.

“Yeah this was obvious from the moment they traded for him. What a waste of a pick,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see where Adams signs in free agency.
