When New York Jets starting quarterback Zach Wilson suffered an injury during the preseason that sidelined him for several weeks, the team went with veteran quarterback Joe Flacco as Wilson’s replacement until he was healthy enough to return. But now, Flacco has not only lost the starting job, but it appears that he’s lost the backup quarterback job, as well.

Ahead of Sunday’s loss to the New England Patriots, the Jets moved Joe Flacco to third on the team’s quarterback depth chart and made him inactive for the game. Flacco is now behind fifth-year quarterback Mike White on the depth chart, and that move is now permanent. Understandably, Flacco revealed that he’s upset by the decision.

“Of course I was surprised and I’m disappointed about it. But at the same time, got to keep it about the team, try not to be a selfish guy and make my situation any more unique than anybody else’s situation in the locker room,” Flacco said, according to Pro Football Talk.

While Flacco didn’t perform incredibly during his three games as a starter this season, he did throw for 307 yards and four touchdowns in a win against the Cleveland Browns back in September. He also threw for 309 yards against the Baltimore Ravens the game before.

Given his experience and how he’s performed this season, it was a surprising move – even to Flacco.
