If you were on social media during Sunday’s Jets-Patriots game, you would have seen that the best quarterback in the history of the New York franchise was very critical of Zach Wilson.
Joe Namath was the voice of many Jets fans on Sunday, as he expressed his displeasure with Wilson’s performance in Sunday’s loss to New England. Wilson completed 18 of 36 (50 percent) for 157 yards. He was unable to get out of his own way, as another dismal performance of his doomed the Jets from the get-go.
Namath, not usually one to hold back, let it fly on Monday’s edition of The Michael Kay Show.
“Send him to Kansas City to back up against somebody like Mahomes, maybe he’d learn something. I wouldn’t keep him. I’ve seen enough of Zach Wilson.” – Joe Namath pic.twitter.com/FQ5GL7tTA7

“How can a coach say, ‘The locker room’s together,'” Namath said in response to a question posed by Don La Greca. “How many teams have we been on? Are you telling me there aren’t some cats on the defensive side saying, ‘Whoa, man, what’s wrong with you?’ There’s not all harmony in the locker room. And if there is, they need to get rid of the people. You have to get people in there who are competitors and want to fight to win. These guys don’t have to be in love with each other. If they’re saying they’re in love with each other, they’re BSing you and you have to get rid of them top to bottom.”
Michael Kay asked Namath what he would do to make Zach Wilson better.
“Send him to Kansas City to back up against somebody like [Patrick] Mahomes, maybe, and learn something,” Namath replied. “I wouldn’t keep him. “I’ve seen enough of Zach Wilson, alright? I’ve seen enough. He has quick feet, can throw a little bit, but I don’t believe in what’s going on up there.”
Namath also had this to say about Wilson’s performance via ESPN’s Rich Cimini:
“I didn’t take anything positive out of it. It was awful.”
An incredulous Namath said of the first sack (untouched): “You sit down? You sit down on a play? You go right down? What happened? I thought you’re trying to win and make plays. You quit on a play? What is going on? It’s disgusting.”
It’s certainly harsh criticism from Namath, but based on Wilson’s play, a lot of it is warranted.
