The relationship between the Indianapolis Colts and running back Jonathan Taylor was thought to be irrevocably fractured. However, it seems like their star player could suit up for them as soon as Sunday.
After being placed on the physically unable to perform list following an ankle injury and a protracted battle with the franchise over his contract, Taylor is eligible to play this weekend against the Tennessee Titans. However, the team has remained mum about the possibility so far.
Asked Friday if Taylor would play on Sunday, Colts head coach Shane Steichen told reporters, “We’ll see.”
It’s unclear if that’s because Indianapolis truly isn’t sure if the running back will be ready to go or if they’re just trying to play coy about whether or not the Titans should gameplan for him.
The team has until Saturday to add him to their 53-player roster, so we’ll have a decent idea of what the plan is then.
Taylor had a monster year in 2021, leading the NFL with 1,811 yards. However, he missed six games in 2022 and there are a lot of questions about whether or not he’ll return to form, let alone how much the Colts want to pay him in his next deal. He’ll be a free agent in March, and the assumption is that one way or another this is his last season with Indy.
