It’s safe to say that New York Jets second-year quarterback Zach Wilson is not off to an incredible start to his NFL career after he was selected as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. But Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen wants everyone to be a little patient with the young quarterback.
During a recent appearance on the “Kyle Brandt’s Basement” podcast, Josh Allen addressed Wilson’s recent struggles during a game against the New England Patriots, when Wilson threw three interceptions. Allen defended Wilson, saying he was just “trying to make a play.”
“I think it’s a guy trying to make a play, and I was at that same position,” Allen said in the podcast, according to Fox News. “I threw three picks against the Patriots my second year, and that’s kind of the game where it all clicked for me, after that game. So you can take that for what it is.”
Allen also pointed out that some players simply take longer to develop – like himself.
“Sometimes it takes a little longer,” he said. “It took me a while to kind of understand the nuances of this game and trying not to do too much. I think that’s what it comes down to, not trying to do too much and allowing you to trust your guys on the field with you.”
